Serving the Nation's Capital Airports

Ricondo Enjoys Decades-Long Partnership with DCA and IAD

Since 1991, Ricondo has served as the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s (MWAA) airport planning expert, which has resulted in new airfield/airspaces, terminals, landside developments, baggage systems, environmental studies, and gate modifications—necessary to welcome the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus 380. In return for outstanding service and unmatched technical expertise, Ricondo has consecutively won, 5 times over, the contract to be selected as the on-call consultant for Washington Dulles International (IAD) and Reagan Washington National (DCA) Airports since 2005.

Being the on-call expert means the Ricondo team must be ready at any time to address a myriad of issues the MWAA may face. From airfield/airspace, landside, and terminal planning to surface transportation modeling and environmental impact, noise, air quality, and safety studies, Ricondo has touched nearly every aspect of modernizing and operating the airports in our nation’s capital.

Through the decades, dozens of projects prepared for IAD have included: aviation and passenger forecasts; capacity and simulation analysis for airfield, terminal, curbside, and roadway facilities; aircraft positioning studies; employee economy parking busing analysis; a baggage handling capacity study; Airbus 380 gate criteria; a north terminal redevelopment study; and a perishable goods facility study. For DCA, Ricondo has conducted similar analyses, plus a landside modernization program (roadways, parking structures, consolidated rental car facility), runway safety studies, and gate reallocation studies.

MWAA has also called upon Ricondo to lend specific expertise in conducting an Airport Traffic Control Tower siting study and a noise compatibility program (DCA) that meets the standards set in the Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations.
